On a bright red day on the local market, there were sharp negative moves for Aspen, Motus, Pepkor and Shoprite in response to announcements. AfroCentric also didn't escape the pain. Ascendis also released results.

Truworths released poor numbers. Something seems to be brewing at Finbond. Most of KAP's businesses are underperforming. Murray & Roberts and Northam Platinum gave themselves more balance sheet flexibility.

Dipula, Equites and Fortress gave us an interesting property day, with Sanlam and Santam on the insurance side as well. Libstar, Metrofile, Impala Platinum, Pick n Pay and South32 all released important updates, as did Blue Label.

Bidcorp has released great numbers. Murray & Roberts is on the mend. MC Mining has attracted major foreign investment. PPC is paying a special dividend. Transpaco's numbers are uninspiring. Finbond is doing a risky deal.

Ghost Bites (BHP | Brimstone | Master Drilling | Pick n Pay | Redefine | Sasfin | Sea Harvest | Stor-Age | WBHO)

BHP is a great example of mining cycles. Pick n Pay has some green shoots. Stor-Age remains a solid player. Look out for Brimstone, Master Drilling, Redefine, Sea Harvest, WBHO and more.

Ghost Bites (ADvTECH | Harmony | Italtile | STADIO)

ADvTECH and STADIO both released great numbers, showing the value of the tertiary education sector. Harmony has more than doubled HEPS. Italtile has warned of competitive pressures.

Ghost Bites (African Rainbow Minerals | Alphamin | Gold Fields | Grindrod)

African Rainbow Minerals suffered a sharp drop in earnings. Alphamin released detailed financials for Q2. Gold Fields needs a far better second half. Grindrod struggled in the Logistics business.
