On an extremely busy day of news, we saw updates from property groups Burstone, Emira and Safari, along with difficulties at Barloworld, CMH and Metfair. In financial services, both FirstRand and Old Mutual had important news, along with numerous other companies in the Nibbles section.

It was a big day for retail updates, with Shoprite and The Foschini Group being the big news. We also saw updates from Bowler Metcalf, Coronation, Orion Minerals, Sanlam and Santam.

AngloGold reports better numbers. Datatec is a mixed bag in tricky conditions. Gold Fields is struggling with chinchillas (for reals). Murray & Roberts is taking pain. Sibanye gets punished by the market. Truworths grew strongly.
